HIRING SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETERS

Communication is key to the success of any event. Those people or firms wishing to hire simultaneous interpreters, but who are not acquainted with any qualified interpreter, should refer to our List of Members . All  ADICA members are prepared to provide advice to the conference organizer as to the many aspects relative to costs and give advice on how to attain the expected optimum results: from helping in the planning of conference halls or the distribution of working hours in order to cut costs, to the recommendation of a sound equipment company which can provide the proper equipment for each event.
"Coordinating interpreters", apart from providing the abovementioned advice, will set up the adequate team of interpreters for the subject matter of the event, since they know their colleagues in our Association and will appoint the most qualified professionals for each subject matter.
The persons requiring this type of service should always remember how important timing is in the attainment of all the objectives. It is not advisable to wait until the last minute for hiring the interpreters, nor to resort to poorly- qualified interpreters in order to cut costs, since it is precisely the interpreters who will be the nexus allowing for communication between the audience and the foreign speakers. The very presence of these foreign guests is the main interest of the event and involves considerable spending on the part of the organizer. All this investment is wasted if the message conveyed is distorted in the hands of unqualified interpreters.
Those wishing to hire ADICA interpreters, who are listed on the
List of Members, can feel assured that they are hiring qualified professionals, with proven track records, with shared working criteria and who firmly adhere to the conditions stated on the Code of Ethics , which will prevent the organizers from having unpleasant surprises.
Below, we provide a list of recommendations to be considered when contracting for the service of sound equipment for simultaneous interpretation.

RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE ARGENTINE ASSOCIATION OF CONFERENCE INTERPRETERS (ADICA) ON TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT

With the purpose of assuring the quality of their work and the success of the event, ADICA interpreters suggest taking into account the following list of requirements when hiring a sound equipment provider.

  • Permanent monitoring of the audio signal reaching the interpreters' console.
  • Proper opening and closing of microphones in order to avoid overlapping of voices.
  • Adequate volume that can be adjusted by the interpreters
  • Sound-proof booth, compliant with all the ISO 4043 requirements, including individual lighting, microphone with off and cough buttons, sufficient room for working papers and proper access into and out of the booth.
  • Silent air extractor for the interpreters to be able to work with closed doors and count with booth ventilation
  • Location of the booth in the hall allowing for perfect visibility of the speaker and the screens. If this cannot be arranged, a video monitor should be provided
  • Room assistants who take due care of handing the microphones to the speakers, specially during the question and answer session.
